Their next topic is Advancement in Genetics and DNA and will be introduced by Dr. David Foran, Associate Professor of Criminal justice and Zoology at Michigan State University. Dr. Foran will speak to both advances in the science of Genetics/DNA as well as the applied use of this area of science in the field of forensic investigation.

About the Speaker
Dr. David R. Foran is an Associate Professor and Director of the Forensic Science Program at the School of Criminal Justice, Department of Zoology, Michigan State University. He received his PhD in Molecular Genetics from the University of Michigan in 1988. His expertise is in Forensic Science including: forensic biology, wildlife forensics, genetic identification of individuals and species. His research has been focused on DNA isolation from tissues, body fluids/stains, hair, and bone. Foran is a Court qualified expert in Forensic Biology, including DNA analysis (nuclear and mitochondrial) and serology. He serves as the Director of the Forensic Biology Laboratory at Michigan State University, is a member of the Board of Directors of the Amara Conservation Association and a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Forensic Sciences.
