Supporting the Nonrelious in a Religious Community (Grand Rapids)

Tuesday, April 11, 2017, 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm
Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan, 3215 Eaglecrest Drive NE, Grand Rapids, MI, View Map

West Michigan is a community of diverse churches, synagogues, and mosques. Many healthcare providers say they feel relatively “comfortable” and even “prepared” to meet the needs of someone whose faith perspective differs from their own. But how prepared is our healthcare system when it comes to meeting the needs of a rapidly growing sector of our community referred to as the non-religious, including secular humanists, agnostics, and atheists? What can healthcare providers do to ensure that all who seek out services are treated with compassion and respect?

Panelists include:

  • Jennifer Beahan, Program Director, Center for Inquiry-MI
  • Jeremiah Bannister, Advisory Board Member, Center for Inquiry-MI
  • Reverend Doug VanDoren, Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ
  • Vicki Poleni, LMSW Care Advocate
