About Our Special Guests
Richard Dawkins is one of the world's leading scientific intellectuals, specializing in evolutionary biology. He received his Doctorate and was appointed Assistant Professor of Zoology at Berkeley University. He is the former Charles Simonyi Professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University and is the founder and trustee of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.
Dawkins is an incredibly successful writer. He has won countless awards and regularly lectures around the world. The Wall Street Journal said his "passion is supported by an awe-inspiring literary craftsmanship." The New York Times Book Review has hailed him as a writer who "understands the issues so clearly that he forces his reader to understand them too." Among his books are The Ancestor's Tale, The Selfish Gene, The Blind Watchmaker, Climbing Mount Improbable, Unweaving the Rainbow, A Devil's Chaplain, and The God Delusion.
Sean Faircloth is the newly appointed Director of Strategy and Policy at the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science, where his focus will be public policy, speaking out regarding the dangers of theocratic laws, and the value of scientific policy. Sean most recently served as the Executive Director for the Secular Coalition for America in Washington D.C., in which capacity he served as a lobbyist for secular causes and built up a reputation as a very effective public speaker and movement strategist.
Faircloth trained as a lawyer and made his name as an accomplished legislator, serving ten years in the Maine legislature. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and the University of California's Hastings College of the Law. He is the author of the upcoming book Attack of the Theocrats! How the Religious Right Harms Us All—and What We Can Do About It.
Elisabeth Cornwell is the Executive Director of the US branch of the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science (RDFRS). She worked as a volunteer at RDFRS since its inception and later became the first Executive Director. At RDFRS, Elisabeth created and expanded the OUT Campaign and actively works to build networks with various local and national secular organizations.
Cornwell completed her Ph.D. in psychology at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. As an evolutionary psychologist her research has examined the underlying mechanisms of human mate selection and the relationship of various psychological traits to religious belief.
The Magic of Reality departs from Dawkins' focus on adult readers, using his unrivaled explanatory powers to share the magic of science with people of ALL ages.
