Tuesday, May 5, 2009, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Fuse Lounge, 227 S. Main St., Rochester, MI, View Map

Description

Dr. John Halpin will discuss the program, pro naturalistic world-view, and some of the concerns that remain front and center in the philosophy of Naturalism. For example, are we in danger of putting too much faith in aspects of science (multiverse hypotheses, theories of consciousness based on computation) even while rejecting faith in the “God hypothesis”?

Dr. Halpin is Associate Professor and Department chair of the Philosophy Department of Oakland University. He received his PhD from the University of Illinois (Chicago) and teaches courses in logic, philosophy of science and philosophy of mind.

Dr. Halpin suggests reading his paper Fine Tuning Arguments and the Concept of Law” before the discussion for more background.
