Service: Healthy Homes Canvassing (Grand Rapids)

Thursday, August 10, 2017, 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Healthy Homes Coalition Office, 1545 Buchanan Ave SW, Grand Rapids, MI, View Map

Description

We are all aware of the lead contamination problem in Flint, but did you realize that we have a similar problem in Grand Rapids? In fact, Grand Rapids has the highest rate of childhood lead poisoning in the state from lead paint dust. In 2015 there were more children poisoned in the 49507 area code than in the entire city of Flint!

Thankfully, the Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan is ready to take action, and members of CFI Michigan will join them on August 10th to canvass homes in the 49507 area as part of the Get the Lead Out Initiative. Volunteers will have a short orientation at 5:30pm at the Healthy Homes Coalition followed by door-to-door educational canvassing in neighborhoods between Madison and Eastern, and between Burton and Dickinson from 6-8pm.

Also, on July 26 Paul Haan, the Executive Director of the Coalition, will be the guest speaker at our regular lecture at the Women’s City Club. Paul will present more details into this serious problem and what they will be doing in an ongoing effort to mitigate it. This will be a program that our members will not want to miss.

To volunteer please RSVP by Noon on August 10th to Dennis Gaymer at .
