Presented by Carl Bajema, PhD, Professor of Biological Sciences, Grand Valley State University
Description
The Origin of Species was published 150 years ago on November 23, 1859. Darwin presented the scientific case for evolution and that the designs we observe in nature are due to the action of natural and sexual selection operating on variations.
Carl Bajema's presentation will review the case for evolution made by Darwin 150 years ago and showcase the major advances that have occurred with respect to the scientific understanding of evolution. He will also discuss the role that natural and sexual selection plays with respect to adaptations (designs) for surviving and reproducing.
About the Speaker
Recently retired from Grand Valley State University, Dr. Bajema taught evolutionary biology for more than 40 years. He has conducted scientific research involving the measurement of the direction and intensity of selection in human populations. Professor Bajema also has been very active as a science educator helping students, teachers and others gain a better scientific understanding of the natural processes involved in evolution.
