I recently finished Dawkins The God Delusion and enjoyed the read. He did a nice job covering a lot of old arguments against the existence of God in a fresh way that made it worth-the-while despite that I’ve read many others that essentially cover the same ground.

Check out Dawkins Web Site for video clips from personal appearances and other goodies.

An easy, but interesting book I recently read is Is God good, bad, or irrelevant? by Preston Jones (Intervarsity Press). It’s an e-mail exchange between a Christian college professor and Greg Graffin the lead singer of the punk bad Bad Religion who just so happens to have a PhD in evolution from Cornell.

My brother and I have wanted to walk the beaches of Michigan. All of them, or at least all the ones around it. We want to walk clear through from Grand Beach to Indian Island. The one question we have is: Is this possible and are there any laws against it?

I am not sure who to contact about this, could anybody point me the right direction?

I would also be interested in anybody commenting on this idea. We were thinking that we might try to do a fund raiser for Make A Wish or something similar.

Holding Jesus Hostage

Jean Mansel and the ransom note

Oakfield Township: Some Oakfield Township residents have taken what’s not theirs to prove a point.

An anonymous residents on Lindy Lane claim Jean Mansel isn’t picking up after her dogs, so to entice her to do so, they took something close to her heart.

Those residents say their Mansel’s wiener dogs leave their leavings in their yard.

So, they stole her 80 pound statue of Jesus.

Mansel says she cherishes her cement Jesus statue; it was an heirloom from her late uncle.

“There was footprints behind it, and footprints in front of it,” she says, pointing out where the statue used to be.

It was Thursday morning when Jean walked outside to find Jesus gone.

“My husband got a phone call and a real graspy voice over the phone said ‘check your mailbox’.”

In the mailbox was a ransom note.

“The note basically said they were holding Jesus for ransom.”

The note reads: “We are holding Jesus ransom until you clean up the poopie from your wieners and trust us we see you take your wieners for long walks w/out picking up their poopie in our yards. This has upset us dearly so please clean up all the weiner poopie, if you want to see Jesus unharmed. Sincerely, Lindy Lane Residents.”

“It has to be a young person because they put these lines around Jesus, no adult is going to waste their time doing that,” says Mansel. “And referring to weiner poopie…my gosh.”

Jean has four wiener dogs and admits there was a complaint last year about their leavings. But she says she’s cleaned up every pile since.

“I take my dogs for walks, I carry a plastic bag with me and pick up anything that they do.”

Now, Jean just wants her statue back, and says she won’t press charges if Jesus isn’t harmed.

“I thought something like that would be safe in your yard, it wasn’t, it wasn’t.”

So what do you think? Was stealing the Jesus statue an appropriate response to alleged dog leavings?

And if you or someone you know is the one behind the ransom note we want to hear from you.

I know this is off topic, but this past Monday my car was totaled when a young driver decided he wanted to occupy the same space on the road that my car was already using, sending my car it into a fairly solid telephone pole. After a couple of days of wicked back pain, I’m fully recovered . . . sadly the same cannot be said for my car.

Do any of you folks out there know anyone (who knows anyone etc.) with a car for sale? My car was a ‘89 Cutlass so I expect to get, oh, about a hundred bucks or so from it (which is really tragic because it only had 80,000 miles on it and a new set of breaks) so I’m not really in the market for a new Prius or anything like that . . . unless of course you’re willing to part with it for a cool thou. Any leads on affordable vehicles would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Everyone.

I have career questions for all of you. I am currently freaking out with what I am going to do for the rest of my life and weather or not I can be happy with it.

I’m currently working for GE Aviation (formely Smiths Aerospace). I am a software engineering intern there. The work environment is cubicle based (think office space and you’d be half way there). I currently sit at my cube for 8 hours a day staring at a computer screen, typing, and pointing and clicking. This is also what the other employees in my department do. It pays well but it doesn’t make me look forward to going to work.

My degree path is Electrical Engineering (two more years to go). I am interested in technology and science. I just don’t want to work at a cubical my entire life.

What does everyone else here do? Are you happy with it? Do you have any suggestions for me?
