Bio

Hi.  My name is Crystal and I’m a writer and philosopher who has called Detroit, Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Houghton Lake home.  I am the former editor and publisher of The Muskegon 115.  I quit that to move back to Detroit.  I’ve written two novels and am now leading a research project aimed at helping transgendered males and their lovers with their sex and relationship issues.  My main goal as a writer is to encourage reason, intelligence, self-reliance and the connection between science and philosophy.  My fiction is philosophical in nature, and lately I’ve been focused mainly on (1) how society and counselors are the reasons that victims of childhood sexual abuse have emotional problems, and not necessarily because of the abuse itself.  and (2) issues of gender identity and how the people who do not fit into traditional male and female roles are changing society.  I just got finished with a campaign for the group End Alimony Now! which I am very happy with.

I have a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from GVSU, but I work at a job that gives me the freedom to work on my own projects, mostly volunteer stuff.  I believe that everyone needs to create their own philosophy and religion, because every person is different.  And it is the process of learning (about yourself, and how you fit into the universe), that is life - and in itself a fluid, peaceful kind of religion.  I don’t want to necessary impose my personal morals on anyone else - only to encourage others to really think and experiment before settling on someone else’s morals to define them.  To evolve we need humans to feel free to be themselves, encourage them in their natural talents and interests, and give them the resources to make rational decisions.
