About the Speaker
Earle Canfield started out with an innate skill for mathematics and the sciences but gradually focused on medicine, where he ultimately became a certified Physician’s Assistant (P.A.) and moved from Seattle to Grand Rapids. During the time that he was deeply immersed in mathematics, his restless mind caused him to look into something as different as he could find from this. That new avenue came in the form of a textbook called Tibetan Cultural History—The Hegemonic Period. Soon he became enthralled with that region and its history. He decided to visit, and was smitten by the culture and its people. But he was also introduced to the dire living conditions of Nepal, which is one of the poorest areas on the globe. He decided to do something about it and started up ANSWER, an apolitical, non-religious, non-governmental organization (NGO), the central focus of which is the education of indigenous Nepali children.
