Saving Local Farms: A Critical Step for Sustainability

About the Speaker

Tom Cary has been with the West MI Environmental Action Council since June of 1994. He has worked on a variety of projects of benefit to the environment while also promoting sustainable green business practices. He coordinated the Adopt-A-Stream and Lake Monitoring programs and also initiated the Religion, Ecology and Spirituality work group and the Stream Search programHis current focus is sustainable food systems, and he initiated the Greater Grand Rapids Food Systems Council. Cary completed a Masters of Arts degree in Community and the Environment from Antioch University, Seattle, Washington, with interest in sustainable food systems, ecopsychology and environmental economics. He also received a B.S. in Chemistry from Hope College, was part of an environmental contracting/testing company and traveled throughout Europe and Africa.
